Doris Barnes (Hartzog), affectionately known as “Dot,” was born on November 19, 1929, in Prentiss, Mississippi, to Ciceree and James Hartzog; both preceded her in death. She was the second eldest of seven children from that union: three sisters and three brothers. Following her mother’s death, Ciceree, seven more children were born from the union of James and Annie Lue Hartzog: four sisters and three brothers. Of her siblings, eight preceded her in death: James Hartzog, Jr., Samuel Ford Hartzog, Sr., Conner Hartzog, Juanita Branagh, Ciceree Hartzog, George (Paul) Hartzog, Ellis Jewel Hartzog, and Quilla Hartzog.
